Fielden factors embrace innovation with fibo Collect technology

Overview

A fibo Collect station has been installed in Todmorden, West Yorkshire UK, marking a step forward in how builders, bricklayers, landscapers, and more can access small volumes of concrete, mortar, and screed. Designed by fibo Collect UK in partnership fibo Intercon, the system aims to offer unparalleled convenience for small-scale tradespeople, with materials ready for collection in under five minutes.

The technology, installed at the builders merchant provides a self-service solution for customers needing smaller volumes of ready-mixed materials. This development brings new efficiency to the construction communities in Todmorden while also expanding prospects for businesses adopting similar systems.

Making the Most of Limited Space

The installation at Fielden Factors demonstrates how fibo Collect’s adaptable systems can turn underutilized spaces into valuable assets. For Fielden Factors owner Tom Whitehead, the project presented both challenges and opportunities.

“At first, I struggled to work out what I was going to sacrifice to fit the fibo Collect system on our site,” Whitehead admitted.

“After conversations with fibo Collect UK and fibo Intercon, they came up with a solution that allowed us to use a small, underutilised corner of the yard and not sacrifice anything else on the yard,” Whitehead explained.

fibo Intercon came up with a custom design to utilise the FS1200 model, to include both a bulk bag silo optimised for dry building sand and a compact vertical cement silo, adhering to the site’s height restrictions.

Addressing Local Needs with Advanced Technology

By addressing some of the key pain points for builders and tradespeople handling smaller projects, such as time inefficiencies and inflexible material deliveries, the fibo Collect station has been designed with productivity in mind. The automated system eliminates the need for on-site mixing or long waits at traditional ready-mix collection plants.

Using the fibo Collect system is straightforward, with users placing their order at the trade counter before positioning their vehicle or tub under the system’s conveyor belt. A simple barcode scan at the kiosk then activates the mixing process. Customers can collect their materials in less than five minutes, streamlining operations for busy professionals.

The innovative technology behind fibo Collect enables businesses like Fielden Factors to better serve tradespeople working on smaller residential projects, repairs, extensions, or landscaping tasks. Whitehead sees significant benefits for this customer base, saying, “Running a setup like this, where things can be collected or delivered in small quantities, is certainly going to help them with the jobs they’ve got on.”

Expanding Horizons for Builders’ Merchants

Not only does fibo Collect enhance customer convenience, but it also provides business owners like Whitehead with opportunities to tap into previously underserved markets.

“We can tap into some new opportunities with some of the local civil contractors, possibly some of the farming community. This is for the businesses that currently escape us, as it sets us apart from our competition, giving them a solid reason to come in,” Whitehead added.

This ability to attract new clientele and simplify operations underscores fibo Collect UK’s mission to revolutionise the small-load market for businesses across the construction and agricultural sectors.

A Vision for the Future

The collaboration between fibo Collect UK, fibo Intercon, and adopters like Fielden Factors is shaping how builders’ merchants approach material distribution. By prioritising efficiency and customer experience, fibo Collect systems are not just improving operations for merchants but also empowering local communities of tradespeople with swift, cost-effective solutions.

Tom Whitehead is optimistic about the system’s future impact on Todmorden’s construction scene, “It sets us apart from our competition,” he said, adding that early feedback from regular customers has already been overwhelmingly positive.

The fibo Collect station represents a forward-thinking step in small load material distribution, offering smarter, quicker, and more flexible access to construction essentials. With its ability to address ongoing inefficiencies in the industry, fibo Collect provides builders’ merchants with not only a competitive edge but also a scalable solution to meet modern demands.
