Producing concrete in remote site areas

In early 2023, Tore Mosand from Nordland Betong was approached by Gaia Salmon, a salmon farmer, to supply concrete for an expansion of the salmon farm on Træna, an archipelago off the Norwegian coast. The problem with supplying concrete from one of their existing factories was that the concrete would harden before reaching the archipelago. They needed to be able to produce the concrete on-site to avoid this problem. A mixing plant was needed on the island.

After researching the market for mobile concrete mixing plants, the choice fell on an F2200 from fibo intercon. The mobile concrete mixer makes it possible to produce concrete on-site, thus avoiding the problem of time-consuming transportation of the finished concrete. The new mixer will deliver 3000 m³ to the smolt facility at Gaia Salmon in 2023.

When the new fish farm is completed, Tore Mosand hopes to be able to leave the mobile concrete mixer at Træna for a longer period, as there are plans for many more projects in the area, both in the form of industrial buildings, more salmon and smolt farms, a new hotel, and a new quay. Projects that will all require large amounts of concrete.

Previously, smaller forced action mixers have been used on islands and in areas far from the concrete factories, but as the requirements for concrete quality are increasing, this is no longer an option, as the concrete quality is too variable.

Therefore, Tore Mosand sees a big market for the new F2200. With this mobile concrete mixing plant, it is possible to make concrete of high and uniform quality, and the continuous testing of concrete quality is no longer a problem. He expects that the plant can remain at Træna for a long time, producing concrete, and that the plant afterward can be transported to other areas and used in other similar projects.
