Slip Form Construction

Building slip form towers in inner city locations can be a challenge.

Slip Form Construction for Inner City Projects

The Problem

Inner city slip form construction can be a challenge. The primary problem is logistics, and the second challenge is quality.

Ready-mix wagons running through congested city roads and streets is a nightmare for the construction manager. Late deliveries, concrete arriving after the initial set and rejected are just two issues.

If the concrete materials could be delivered to site during the night when the traffic is very light, and concrete produced on site. Then no rejected loads and the site manager is in control of the concrete production.

Concrete on demand, when you want it, works well for continuous slip, form pours. Concrete placed when required at the correct quality is the primary goal.

The Solution

Storing a few days supply of sand, cement and aggregate on site together with a concrete batching plant solves the problem. If the site is tight for space as many are, high storage bins can be used together with vertical cement silos.

Another alternative is to pre-mix the aggregate, sand and cement off-site and then only storing the dry pre-mix on site. Pre-mix increases the production output of the site mixer as well as saving some space.

On-site concrete production gives the construction manager on demand concrete production. Using a Fibo weight metric batching plant will deliver high-quality concrete with a +-1 % dosing accuracy using the correct plant set up.
